Spiro was referred to us through the Bridges project, who we work with closely to build confidence and work skills in disadvantaged young people. He has been studying Hospitality and Catering for a few years, gaining a variety of qualifications within the department.
Like many of our learners, Spiro lacked self-esteem and didn’t have the confidence for interviews or working in the community. Over time, the college managed to build his skills and confidence and Spiro started to be introduced to local community groups, helping him to develop friendships.
He was recently given the opportunity of a work placement at a local care home, where he showcased his skills to a real employer, working alongside the kitchen manager.
